We've had an exceptional first half of the year working with a group of volunteer students from Holmesglen Tafe to get through a program of work to help improve the appearance of the Toy Library.
The Holmesglen Students were aged between 18 and 23, with varied learning difficulties. No job was too big, too small or too messy for the students and they happily turned up to each working bee with smiles on their faces along with their teacher Julian.
The working bees were run by our President Leonie, who set up tasks to get through each session. We also had support and hands on help from committee and members Lisa, Pia, Vasantha, Kate and Caroline. The results achieved from the sessions have made an incredible impact to the look and feel of the Toy Library, and we have received many compliments from our members.
The students were engaged with the tasks at each working bee and enjoyed getting to know Leonie and her son Remzi, whom they worked with each session.
Tasks included:
Cleaning & decluttering the outside area
Assembling & photographing climbing frames
Sorting & cleaning plastic tubs
Re-organising the puzzle section
Categorising the spare parts room
Photographing toys
Raking leaves
The before and after outside the Toy Library - We even discovered a colony of ants!
